U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service petitioned to list 53 species of amphibians and reptiles

The Center for Biological Diversity has filed a petition asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list 53 amphibians and reptiles as “threatened” or “endangered.” The 450-page petition, described by the CBD as “the largest ever filed focusing only on amphibians and reptiles,” seeks listing of six turtles, seven snakes, two toads, four frogs, 10 lizards and 24 salamanders. Although the petition lists a number of factors that CBD believes to have harmed the species, it alleges that “over half of the petitioned species, are threatened by timber harvest.”

NCASI will be reviewing the petition and preparing technical comments.
