2015 FIA User Group meeting scheduled for April 1 – 2 in San Antonio, TX

The U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program is the nation’s continuous forest census. The Program, in cooperation with state forestry agencies, collects data from a network of field plots that is the basis for assessments of America’s forests. FIA relies heavily on periodic meetings with users and clients to ensure that the Program is providing the highest quality service and meeting planned objectives. Each year, the U.S. Forest Service, the Society of American Foresters, and NCASI collaborate to organize a National FIA User Group meeting.

In 2015, the National FIA User Group meeting will be held on April 1 - 2 in San Antonio, TX. The meeting will allow users of FIA data and services to learn about recent progress in the Program and to provide input for improvements and new directions. The agenda includes a pre-meeting field trip on the morning of April 1 to visit woodland and urban forest inventory plots. The remainder of the agenda will be devoted to presentations and discussion related to topics such as the results of recent assessments of the status and trends of US forests, use of FIA and remote sensing data for assessing land use change, the adequacy of FIA data for trend estimation, implementation of a tree planting survey, biomass data collection and modeling, use of FIA data for timber supply modeling, and progress towards creating a national Timber Products Output program.
