NCASI reviews presence, fate, and ecological significance of H2S in pulp and paper mill effluents

NCASI has published Technical Bulletin No. 997, The Presence, Fate and Ecological Significance of Hydrogen Sulfide in Pulp and Paper Mill Effluents. The topics discussed include the methodology for measuring hydrogen sulphide and total sulphide in mill wastewaters and treated effluents, results of NCASI measurements of sulphides in selected mill effluents, and the fate of sulphides during the treatment of pulp and paper mill wastewaters.

NCASI prepares new Canadian base camp for arrival of caribou research herd in 2013

For the past three years, NCASI and the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) have been collaborating on a caribou nutrition research program, the first phase of which has taken place at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Now three years old, the cows have given birth to their first calves, and will be ready in early 2013 to begin their work in grazing trials in Canada. Transport of the animals to British Columbia is anticipated in March 2013.

NCASI investigates methane and nitrous oxide emissions from biomass-fired boilers and kraft recovery furnaces

NCASI recently completed a study to develop data on CH4 and N2O emissions from boilers burning solid biomass fuels (wood, wood waste, and bark) and recovery furnaces burning pulping liquors. The results are published in NCASI Technical Bulletin No. 998, Methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide (N2O) Emissions from Biomass-Fired Boilers and Recovery Furnaces.
