Investigation of Cl2 emissions from fossil fuel boilers
Data in EPA’s Boiler MACT ICR database indicates that Cl2 emissions from fossil fuel boilers are equal to or greater than HCl emissions. NCASI has temporarily excluded these data from the air toxics database, given these limited data are from package boilers < 100 MMBtu/hr. NCASI will assess whether Cl2 emissions of this scale can be expected from industrial combustion sources. A literature search will be conducted to explore the fate of the fuel chlorine under a variety of combustion conditions. Because the data in question are all from boilers outside our industry, chlorine test results from boilers in the forest products industry will be solicited. A determination about whether EPA’s data should continue to be excluded will be made.
