NCASI / WPC Technical & Regulatory Workshop

December 06, 2022 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Central) Location: Zoom

As PFAS regulations continue to emerge and evolve at both federal and state levels, dischargers are facing changes and new requirements in effluent discharge permits. The Midwest has been particularly active in this regard, with states including Minnesota and Wisconsin favoring enhanced PFAS monitoring requirements and the implementation of pollutant minimization plans. To assist the industry in preparing for these new requirements, the Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) and NCASI hosted a one-day online Technical and Regulatory Workshop with special emphasis on mass balance analyses in support of PFAS minimization plans.

WORKSHOP AGENDA

  • Industry + Regulatory Morning Session
    • Wisconsin Paper Council Regulatory Update (Patrick Stevens, WPC)
    • WI’s PFOS/PFOA Minimization Plan Requirements (Laura Dietrich, WDNR)
    • WI’s PFOS/ PFOA Sampling and Analytical Requirements (Amy Garbe, WDNR)
    • WDNR Question and Answer / Discussion
  • Industry-Only Afternoon Session
    • Mercury Mass Balances: Lessons Learned and Contrast to PFAS (Boris Lau, NCASI)
    • Field-based Sampling Methods (Kevin Eisen, Barr Engineering)
    • Current State of Analytical Science for PFAS for Mass Balance Studies (Cecilia Silva-Sanchez, NCASI)
    • Case Study Experience: Mass Balance Considerations Unique for PFAS (Liz Denly, TRC)
    • Panel Discussion (led by Giffe Johnson, NCASI)

Questions may be directed to Brad Barnhart (Senior Research Scientist, NCASI) at gro.isacn@trahnrabb.
