NCASI President Announces Retirement: Successor Named and Other Leadership Changes Approved

Cary, North Carolina – Suzanne Cuthbert, Chair of the Board of Governors of the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, Inc. (NCASI) and the Chair of the NCASI Foundation is announcing several changes in the leadership of both organizations.

Dirk Krouskop, President, and CEO of NCASI and President of the NCASI Foundation, has made known his plans to retire from NCASI, and related appointments, effective January 15, 2024. Mr. Krouskop assumed the role of President of NCASI in 2014 and has successfully guided the organization through a transformative period, leading to substantial improvements in its strength and financial stability. Ms. Cuthbert states that the Executive Committee of the NCASI Board of Governors has accepted Mr. Krouskop’s retirement and expresses gratitude for his years of dedicated leadership.

Dr. Vipin Varma has been named by the Executive Committee of the NCASI Board of Governors as the incoming President and CEO of NCASI and the NCASI Foundation. Dr. Varma has held several positions with NCASI during his 21-year tenure, most recently as NCASI’s Vice President, Manufacturing Programs. Dr. Varma earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. “Dr. Varma’s strong awareness of the issues facing the forest products industry and his deep understanding of the unique role played by NCASI in responding to the environmental and sustainability issues of the industry secures the future of NCASI for many years to come”, according to Ms. Cuthbert.

In the coming months, Mr. Krouskop will maintain his position as President of NCASI and the NCASI Foundation while a thorough search takes place to find a successor for Dr. Varma in his present capacity. It is planned that Dr. Varma will move into his new role on September 25, 2023, concurrent with the start of NCASI’s Annual Conference to be held in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Krouskop will serve as President Emeritus, assisting in the transition until his retirement.

Tammerah Garren has been named NCASI Executive Vice President by the Executive Committee of the NCASI Board of Governors.  Her role includes operating NCASI business affairs as well as serving as a Corporate Officer as Secretary/Treasurer of NCASI and Treasurer of the NCASI Foundation. Ms. Garren has been employed by NCASI for 25 years and holds an MBA degree and a Non-Profit Management Certification. “This action is to recognize the critical role Ms. Garren performs for NCASI and the NCASI Foundation and the importance of this role in the future success of NCASI”, according to Ms. Cuthbert.
