Forest products facilities in Canada face a complex and highly variable regulatory context depending on the province in which they are located. Technical Bulletin No. 1054 provides an updated overview of the applicable federal and provincial legislation, regulation, guidelines and standards, for both pulp and paper mills and wood products facilities. The report is accompanied by an Excel workbook (CReST).

The focus of the review is on legislation and regulatory guidelines associated with forest products industry releases to air, water and land; residuals and spill management; chemicals and toxic substances management; ozone-depleting and halocarbon substances; storage of petroleum products; mill practices; transportation and handling of dangerous goods; climate change and renewable energy; water resources conservation and protection; and approval or permitting procedures.
