CC-13-025: EPA Finalizes Noncancer Methanol IRIS Health Assessment

On September 30, 2013, EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) was updated with a revised oral reference dose (RfD) for methanol of 2 mg/kg/day and an inhalation reference concentration (RfC) of 20 mg/m3. This action culminates a review process that began in late 2010, when EPA withdrew the cancer and noncancer IRIS assessments for methanol it had released earlier that year. These assessments were withdrawn due to flaws in data used for the cancer classification, thus resulting in the unprecedented designation of methanol as "likely to be a human carcinogen."
