SIM-11-006: Environment Canada & Health Canada Launch Next Phase of Chemicals Management Plan (‘CMP II’)

This is the first of a new series of NCASI Strategic Information Memoranda (SIMs) related to Environment Canada (EC) and Health Canada (HC) recently having announced the second phase of the Chemicals Management Plan, dealing with “medium priority substances”.  The CMP is a program to address 4,300 priority substances that resulted from EC and HC’s legislated review and categorization of the substances on the Domestic Substances List.  It appears that CMP II will require the industry to submit information related to import and manufacture (not use) of specified chemical substances.  The CMP II initiative was launched by way of a Canada Gazette notice on October 8, 2011 (http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2011/2011-10-08/pdf/g1-14541.pdf), pages 3125 through 3129. This information is relevant to all Canadian pulp and paper and wood products manufacturing facilities.
