Special Report No. 87-05: Estimates of Sulfur Dioxide and Oxides of Nitrogen Emissions from Forest Products Manufacturing Facilities

Although the National Council assembled 1980 emission estimates for forest product manufacturing facilities, the data were five years old by 1985 and of limited value for examining more recent legislative initiatives. Therefore a project was undertaken to compile a detailed information base on pulp and paper mill SO2 and NO, emission sources for the year 1985. This special report describes the results of this study. It was found that SO2 emissions from forest product manufacturing facilities were 700,000 tons in 1985, a decrease of over 20 percent from 1980.
