Special Report No. 94-05: Proceedings of the 1994 Annual Meeting of Members

The recent Annual Meeting of Members on March 7 was marked by a General Session which addressed the subject of “NCASI - A Vital Support Element for the Industry’s Environmentally-Related Communications Initiative.” Its point of departure was the importance attached by the industry’s leadership to the rapidly developing ‘communications initiative’ heavily focused on the industry’s environmental management performance and concerns. The General Session presentations considered the National Council’s role in implementing this communications program. It addressed four key subjects, central to the National Council’s work program, including (a) continued industry access to the forest fibre resource, (b) maintaining the operational franchise four paper and wood manufacturing facilities, (c) diminishing the used paper impact on the municipal solid waste management crisis, and its related life cycle assessment elements, and (d) the development of an industry environmental protection data base management system capable of meeting emerging industry documentation needs.
