Special Report No. 95-06: Iodometric Analysis of Chlorine and Chlorine Dioxide in the Presence of Hydrogen Peroxide

Although the iodometric chlorine and chlorine dioxide impinger method has been investigated and standardized by NCASI, the increasing use of hydrogen peroxide solution in pulp bleaching applications introduces the possibility of hydrogen peroxide interference in this procedure. Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine if the presence of hydrogen peroxide compromised the accuracy of chlorine and chlorine dioxide determinations using this method. The study showed that while chlorine concentrations could not be determined accurately in the presence of hydrogen peroxide chlorine dioxide analyses were not affected.
