Technical Bulletin No. 0012: Manual: Air Pollution Control Combustion Processes (AQTB)

The National Council has been sponsoring research on the control of emissions from the chemical pulping industry for some time. It became apparent several years ago, however, that the less complex air pollution problems associated with the combustion of solid fuels were being given immediate attention by the regulatory agencies in this field. For this reason, and because most mills, whether they pulp chemically or not, have this problem, a project was initiated at the College of Engineering of New York University to prepare a Manual dealing with the various aspects of solid fuel combustion and their relation to air pollution. The attached Manual, which was prepared under the direction of William T. Ingram, Adjunct Professor elf the Research Division, and in charge of the National Council Project at New York University, deals with the legislative aspects of air pollution and methods of complying with various control codes that have been promulgated. A section on measurement of atmospheric pollutants and incineration is also enclosed, together with a state air pollution control agency directory. It is hoped that this publication will enable member mills to better cope with the rapid regulatory developments in this field.
