Technical Bulletin No. 0037: Mechanical Dewatering of Paper Mill Sludges

The removal of sufficient water from some residues obtained from clarifying paper mill wastes to allow satisfactory disposal has been a widespread problem. In order to determine the effectiveness of existing methods for handling such hydrous slurries, considerable field testing has been carried on by the Council's engineers in cooperation with mills of various types. The report herein is a summary of much of this work and serves to  indicate the results that can be obtained in the application of various thickening devices to a number of residual slurries. Both unit capacity and degree of dewatering obtainable with them is indicated.
