Technical Bulletin No. 0136: Recent Developments in the Disposal of Pulp and Paper Industry Sludges

Attached is a paper presented by Mr. Russell O. Blosser, National Council Resident Engineer, at the Annual Meeting of the Water Pollution Control Federation. This presentation summarizes the efforts of the industry to find improved means for handling and disposing of pulp and paper mill sludges. It also indicates, through test data, the advantages, limitations, as well as unfeasibility of some of the common and uncommon techniques suggested for the solution of such problems. In addition to performance data for various unit processes, both capital and operating cost data are included so that individual mills will be in a better position to choose the most economical method for handling and disposal of the particular material they are dealing with.
