Technical Bulletin No. 0160: Land Disposal of Evaporator Condensates

This Technical Bulletin was first issued in 1962. At that time disposal of pulp and paper mill effluents by spray irrigation was receiving considerable attention in the industry with some thirty mills applying this process on pilot to full scale. It was noted that as kraft pulp mills progressively increased water reuse within the pulping process, some of the effluents had decreased drastically in volume but increased in strength. This was true of evaporator condensates, disposal of which by spray irrigation was discussed in this report which describes experiences at the Springfield, Oregon, mill of the Weyerhaeuser Company. Mr. Oliver P. Morgan, under whose direction this work was carried out, presented the attached summary at the National Council for Stream Improvement West Coast Meeting held in October, 1962.
