Technical Bulletin No. 0169: Water Pollution Control by In-Plant Measures

The attached Technical Bulletin is a reprint of an article by Harold L. Warner and Byron C. Miller, which appeared recently in TAPPI. It Is of Interest to National Council members since it deals with in-plant measures for control of water pollution taken by the P. H. Glatfelter Company at their Spring Grove, Pennsylvania mill. The magnitude, as well as the success of external waste treatment, frequently depends upon the control of manufacturing losses, as does the conservation of process water. A successful control program is generally dependent upon the interest of top management and in this case the encouragement of the authors in this endeavor led to the development of the successful program described in this paper. A number of novel and effective practices are set forth which should be of interest to many companies within the industry.
