Technical Bulletin No. 0173: 1963 Review of the Literature on Pulp and Paper Mill Wastes

Billings reviewed the various stream improvement programs in effect at ten (10) Kimberly-Clark mills. These ranged from seasonal storage of sulfite liquor and its disposal by soil filtration or as road binder, to fibre recovery and white water reuse at several deinking and tissue mills, controlled discharge at a large newsprint mill, and complete secondary treatment at a proposed kraft mill on an important spawning stream. Also cited was one location at which no treatment is needed or provided, to illustrate the diversity of practical stream improvement requirements and the need for their establishment locally.
