Technical Bulletin No. 0188: The Development and Successful Operation of a Closed White Water System at Two Carolina Paperboard Mills

This technical bulletin describes the development and operation of a closed white water system which has been applied at two of the company's mills manufacturing many grades of waste paper board products. Through the use of seepage lagoons, the small amount of effluent produced is disposed of, eliminating waste water discharge altogether. It is felt that the techniques described in this paper will continue to be of interest to similar mills desiring to reduce the volume of effluent (a) requiring further treatment before discharge, or (b) to reduce treatment costs and pretreatment requirements for joint treatment in publicly owned systems.
