Technical Bulletin No. 0196: Paper Mill Waste Water for Crop Irrigation and Its Effects on the Soil

The attached Louisiana State University Bulletin which is designated as National Council Stream Improvement Technical Bulletin No. 196, was first made available for distribution in 1966 by courtesy of International Paper Company, who had supported a comprehensive study at Louisiana State University on irrigation disposal of kraft mill effluent. The findings of the field experiments bore out the irrigation disposal parameters established by a National Council Research Project at Oregon State University and reported in Technical Bulletins Nos. 164, 176 and 185. The study also demonstrated the conditions under which the effluent from a bleached kraft mill could be employed for irrigating fodder crops without detriment to crop yields or soil properties.
