Technical Bulletin No. 0205: The Effects of Coating Room Losses on Effluent Clarification

Waste water volumes associated with the paper coating operation are small, intermittent in nature but can adversely affect the entire mill effluent treatment facilities. Liquid wastes originating in the coating preparation area result from routine wash-ups, grade changes, dumps and accidental spills. These losses are high in color and solids, very highly peptized and can impart this latter characteristic to the entire paper mill effluent when present in sufficient concentration.
