Technical Bulletin No. 0277: A Study of the Relation Between Residual Soda and Water-Extractable Components of Vacuum Drum Washed Kraft Pulp and of Repulped Corrugated Container Ef

Until now the major criterion of liquor separation efficiency has been residual sodium content in the washed pulp, even though there has been some appreciation that this might not necessarily conform to the retention of the organic constituents of spent liquor in the washed pulp. In addition, as the emphasis in pulp washing studies shifts from an earlier exclusive concern over "washing efficiency" to one that also considers the potential contribution of water-extractable liquor residuals remaining in the washed pulp to the sewered organic load, a new analytical approach may be called for.
