Technical Bulletin No. 0312: The Effect of Temperature on Treatment Plant Performance and Related Temperature Studies

The effect of temperature on waste treatment is significant, and may affect treatment efficiency of high rate biological treatment systems such as activated sludge in a negative manner where extensive water reuse has raised effluent temperatures much above one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Reduced treatment efficiency experienced as a result of cooling during extended resonance time in aerated stabilization basins is more commonly experienced, however, as a result of the greater number of these treatment systems in the industry.
