Technical Bulletin No. 0444: Information Available on Ambient PM10 Monitoring Devices and Monitoring Data

Because of the health effects of small particles which when inhaled tend to deposit in the lower respiratory system, EPA has proposed a primary particulate standard in the ambient air based on small particles with a nominal size of 10 µm and less. These are commonly referred to as PM10. Although the newer particulate standard was not likely to be promulgated until 1985, there was a substantial interest in the forest products industry concerning available equipment and methods for determining PM10 particulate concentrations.
