Technical Bulletin No. 0450: Wet Chemical Method for Determining the H2S Concentration of Calibration Cylinder Gases

When this bulletin was completed, there were no specific regulatory requirements designed to assure the quality of data generated by TRS continuous emission monitoring systems. Effective programs were, however, in place in the industry which include routine calibration to establish system accuracy. This calibration was typically (but not universally) carried out by supplying to the analyzer or to the sampling system a test gas from a passivated aluminum cylinder containing hydrogen sulfide in nitrogen. The validity of the calibration thus depended upon the accuracy with which the concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the cylinder gas is known.
