Technical Bulletin No. 0492: Experience with Recent-Generation Screw Presses for Sludge Dewatering in the U.S. Pulp and Paper Industry

In the years prior to 1986, efforts increased to (a) reduce costs associated with sludge hauling, (b) obtain maximum use of existing landfill capacity, and (c) make sludge a more attractive fuel for combination fuel fired boilers. These efforts led to an intensified search for sludge dewatering technologies capable of generating dry sludge cakes at reasonable costs. Several screw presses were among the dewatering devices receiving attention.
