Technical Bulletin No. 0661: Stripping of Kraft Foul Condensates: Literature Review, Operating Experience, and Field Studies

The literature on treatment of kraft foul condensates by stripping was reviewed. The sources, quantities, quality, and environmental impact of untreated foul condensates were summarized. Three stripping methods, namely air, waste gas, and steam stripping, were described. Information from the 1992 MACT survey on the current population of steam strippers and subsequent short-term sampling to assess methanol removal performance were reviewed. More detailed design information and operating experience for air and steam stripper systems were obtained from 14 mills.
