Technical Bulletin No. 0677: Volatile Organic Emissions From Pulp and Paper Mill Sources, Part III- Miscellaneous Sources at Kraft and TMP Mills

NCASI/Weston Heated SUMMAm Canister Method, NCASI Chilled Impinger Method, RTI Draft Method for aldehydes and ketones, and EPA Method 25A were used to determine the emissions of volatile organic HAPs, selected volatile organics, and EPA Method 25A total VOCS from a number of miscellaneous sources at 11 kraft mills and one TMP mill. The results of these tests on black liquor storage tanks, ClO2 generators, batch digesters during chip filling, pulp storage tanks, saltcake mix tanks, tall oil recovery plants, noncondensible gas thermal oxidizers, one TMP plant, and one oxygen activated sludge secondary treatment plant reactor are presented. The study showed that methanol was the largest fraction of HAPs from most of the sources.
