Technical Bulletin No. 0683: Volatile Organic Emissions from Pulp and Paper MIll Sources, Part IX – Semi-chemical Mills

NCASI/Weston Heated SUMMA- Canister Method, NCASI Chilled Impinger Method, RTI Draft Method for aldehydes and ketones, and EPA Method 25A were used to determine the emissions of volatile organic "hazardous air pollutants" (HAPs), selected other volatile organics, and total VOCS from a number of pulping, brownstock washing, chemical recovery, pulp and liquor storage, and paper machine area sources at one kraft green liquor and one sodium carbonate semi-chemical mill. HAP and VOC emissions from all sources in the sodium carbonate semi-chemical pulping system averaged 0.89 lb/oven dried ton of pulp (ODTP) and 0.
