Technical Bulletin No. 0697: Validation of River/Fish Mechanistic Bioaccumulation Modelilng Procedure Using Southern Streams Data

Validation of the NCASI’s RIVER/FISH mechanistic BIOACCUMULATION modeling procedure was attempted using data from two sets of experiments conducted at the NCASI Southern Streams Project at New Bern, North Carolina. The model RIVER allows the user to estimate concentration of organic chemicals in the receiving water on a daily basis using a simple dilution mass balance, equilibrium partitioning theory and chemical specific properties. Information from the RIVER model is then incorporated into the food web model FISH to estimate the chemical concentrations throughout the aquatic food web for trophic levels and aquatic species specified by the user.
