Technical Bulletin No. 0699: Trends in Raw Waste Loads from Five Deinking Mills

Paper companies continue to search for methods to make use of lower grades of recovered fiber furnish. Data assembled by NCASI from five deinking mills producing tissue or fine papers strongly suggest that such mills will experience increases in BOD5, TSS and sludge loads as a consequence of downgrading furnish quality. Since 1989, four of the five mills have encountered statistically significant increases in BOD5 raw waste loads.
