Technical Bulletin No. 0712: In Vitro Methods for Identification of Endocrine Active Compounds

Some studies of communities of aquatic organisms downstream of pulp mills have hypothesized alterations in fish endocrine function. This report reviews a number of in vitro assays that have been identified for possible use in examining these hypotheses. These tests include receptor binding assays, cell proliferation assays, measurements of hormone-stimulated protein production, and assays of steroid production.
