Technical Bulletin No. 0723: Laboratory and Limited Field Measurements of VOC Emissions from Wood Residuals

VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions from the handling and short-term storage of wood chips, bark, sawdust, and shavings were investigated using a laboratory diffusion chamber system. Laboratory experiments indicated that VOC emissions from hardwood residuals are low, compared to those for softwood residuals. Residuals of pine species have higher VOC emissions than non-pine softwood residuals.
