VOC Speciation

In 1996, the forest products industry made a commitment to EPA to undertake a multi-year research study on VOC emissions. The objectives of the investigation, to be conducted by NCASI, were to (1) determine the individual VOCs that comprised most of the mass of VOC emissions in significant VOC emission sources, (2) develop practical measurement approaches for measuring the key VOCs in these sources, and (3) develop procedures that could be used to provide reasonable estimates of the total mass of VOC emissions from the sources. Sources at wood products plants and pulp and paper mills were to be examined as part of this multi-year multi-part research effort.
