Forestry technical session planned at NCASI West Coast Regional Meeting

NCASI will hold its 2015 West Coast Regional Meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22 and 23, at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver, Washington. The program will address regulatory developments, technical studies of environmental issues important to industry, and other relevant issues.

Regional meetings such as this are designed to reduce travel costs and minimize time away from other duties, while providing opportunities for professional development for member company staff.

The meeting will begin on Tuesday, September 22, with a morning General Session focusing on topics of broad regional and national interest, including a review of how states plan to comply with the Clean Power Plan and implications for the forest products industry, anticipated impacts of climate change on Pacific Northwest forests and water resources and potential adaptation measures, biodiversity as an ecosystem service in managed forests, and other timely topics.

Two concurrent technical sessions are planned for Tuesday afternoon. A Water Quality session will focus on water quality issues and NCASI-relevant research, including updates on federal, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho water quality regulatory developments; water quality criteria; experience with water intake structure rebuilds; and 303(d) listing policy issues. A Wood Products session will focus on MACT and other wood products regulatory and technical issues, including updates on NCASI research.

On Wednesday, an all-day Forest Management session will provide updates on paired watershed studies, including those conducted under the auspices of the Watersheds Research Cooperative. These studies are providing information that will help managers balance economic and aquatic resource stewardship needs.
